Autoimmune myositides (idiopathic inflammatory myopathies) are rare diseases that are associated with myopathy, lung disease and sometimes also with skin lesions:
Anti-synthetase syndrome, adult and juvenile dermatomyositis, amyopathic dermatomyositis, polymyositis, anti-SRP syndrome (necrotizing autoimmune myopathy), overlap syndromes, unclear interstitial lung disease.
Since also amyopathic or atypical courses occur, the diagnosis can be difficult in early stages. The amyopathic course may be pure lung and/or skin involvement. However, these symptoms may also precede the myositis so that the classic disease pattern may occur late in life. An association with tumor diseases is possible. Women are twice as likely to be affected as men.
