Clinical information

Rotavirus is the most common viral enteritis pathogen in children (especially in the first two years of life). The onset of the disease is often marked by vomiting. This is followed by foul-smelling stools, which may also be green in infants.
Patients suffer from poor drinking with sometimes pronounced predominantly isotonic dehydration. The duration of the disease ranges from a few days to a few weeks.
Infection occurs through smear infection (virus excretion largely via the intestine) and more rarely also via droplet infection.
